Welcome to Be The Sought After Entrepreneur Podcast. And here's your host, Kathryn Thompson.

Kathryn Thompson: Hey, hey, I am super stoked to have Becky [00:01:00] Brett here to share a little bit about her experience inside Spellbound, the amazingness that she's creating. Um, so if you want to just take a few minutes and just share who you are and who you serve and what you do.

Becky Brett: Yeah. Hi, my name is Becky Brett. I am a holistic executive coach for mission driven leaders, and so I help people navigate through change, uh, whether they want the change or they don't want the change, I help them navigate through like that, like personal and business chaos.

Kathryn Thompson: Love it. Love it. And so yeah, if you want to share with the people that are watching this, um, we just had a recent call and I wanted to kind of capture this for people because I think a lot of people will resonate.

Just sort of like something that's been unlocked within you. When you, first of all, when you came to Spellbound, what were you kind of like seeking or looking for?

Becky Brett: I was looking for a system because I have just been, uh, like operating in chaos, [00:02:00] like chaos is everywhere. Um, so I was looking for a way to create a system for myself that honored my weirdness and my energy and my time zone and, um, like all kinds of things.

I was looking for a system to attract clients to me. Um, cause I felt like. I am everyone's best kept secret. Love it. And, um, that's not a way to help people or build a business or pay the rent. So when you. I think I saw an Instagram ad that talked about selling the invisible or something like that. And I was like, yes, how do I talk about this?

Um, so that's what got me into your ecosystem and into Spellbound and something, yeah, big. Pretty big was finally for me. I'm a slow learner sometimes.

Kathryn Thompson: Well, I think, I mean, it's interesting because [00:03:00] you've created a lot of really beautiful things and done a lot of amazing things within Spellbound. Um, but sometimes it is that like unlocking moment that's like a catalyst for sort of change or redirection or whatnot.

So I'd love for you to share with people what sort of that catalyst or pivotal moment has been for you within Spellbound.

Becky Brett: So I've been spinning my wheels on social media, like with educational posts and card readings and lifestyle posts and nothing was getting traction. And so So Kathryn invited me to stop doing that.

So thank you. And, um, what we talked about was like, where do I shine? And I shine most in person. [00:04:00] And so she's like, well, then. Get in, in person and like, Oh, okay. You work within my strengths and make that happen. So, so that's what really unlocked was like that permission to stop doing what wasn't working, even though everyone was like, well, just post 18 times a week and make sure you've got your pillars of content and whatever, well, like none of that was really attracting people.

To me, when we really looked at my clients and how I had gotten them, it was because of things that I was doing with them in person or like they had known me forever and finally were like, yes, I get to work with you now. And, or even if it was online, it was sort of in person because it was like small group kind of, um, interactions like in a conference y type environment.

So that's what unlocked for me.

Kathryn Thompson: [00:05:00] Yeah, I love it because I think, again, a lot of times we either we're not giving the permission to ourselves because we're seeing it modeled a certain way and we think it has to be that way without us even knowing that we can do it our way. basically are a way, right? Um, in honoring our natural way of being in the world and where we shine.

Because I think the big question was, how do people find me? How do I get visible? Like, how do I get seen? And we can post 18 times a day and we think it's us getting visible, but the action of posting isn't the thing that gets you visible. It's you shining in what it is that you're doing. And so, I'd love for you to share a little bit about what sort of transpired as a result of that.

When we talk about the unlocking, like having the permission to then maybe do things in person, like what else unlocked for you on that [00:06:00] call in terms of what that could look like?

Becky Brett: Yeah, I am a public speaker. I have a TEDx talk out there in the universe. It's called The Art of Connection if anyone wants to find it.

And, um, I am also an improv performer.

Kathryn Thompson: I love it.

Becky Brett: And, um, so what it unlocked for me was a conversation with my primary improv scene partner, who is also a creative entrepreneur, is also a medicine woman like me, and just like, we have different modalities that we use, and she is my best friend here. on Hawaii Island.

Um, we even just live like a few blocks away from each other. Like we're in each other's lives a lot. Like, like she's my emergency contact. And, um, so we started talking and realized we wanted to create something together. So I'd love to, I want to, I do want [00:07:00] to talk about. Like the system then we created for coming up with this.

Cause I don't know if I, I don't even know if I've told you about it, but what we decided to do was use our strengths because when we're on stage together, we are awesome. Like people love watching us. And frankly, I feel like I'm bragging. I'm not bragging. I'm just stating a fact. We both light up a room when we walk in, like we know how to bring that positive energy for people.

And, um, so we know we like, I shine, she shine, we both. And when we, when we're together, we're like a lot, a lot in a good way. And, um, so we decided to create a show, a two person show that will be, um, we'll tour it.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: And it'll be like a, it'll be an improvised comedy show, but with like medicine built into it.

So we're, we're tentatively, I like to call it failing my higher self.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: Would be the title. [00:08:00] I think she's going to create probably a better marketing title to that, but like, it'll be like, you know, a self help comedy tour or something like that. And, uh, so we'll create this show and then, um, The tour, uh, the package is like show one night and then the next day we'll, we'll offer workshops in each of our areas of expertise.

Like, Oh my gosh. Yes. And then from there would come one on one clients perhaps, or whatever else, however else people want to work with us or not. But no matter what, we will have gotten our medicine out there into the world. Whereas right now it's just sitting with, between me and my phone. Yeah,

Kathryn Thompson: yeah, which is such a beautiful thing.

And I want to reflect that back because I because again I think sometimes we think about, I've got this gift and I've got this medicine I want to share with the world. And I know that when somebody comes in contact with that transmission, [00:09:00] they change, or You know, something happens within them that changes them for the better and improves their life in whatever capacity that might look like, and I think in this online world of having a business and being global, right, because we can work with people all over the world, we get really pigeonholed into, it's got to look this way, I've got to show up on social, I've got to sell in this way, when in reality, this creative endeavor that you're putting together, one will create impact whether people buy from you or not, but I fully believe people will want to work with you as a result of it because you're in your creativity, you're in your gifts.

And you're sharing from a place of deep service, of wanting to have fun and share and to, and the synergy that the two of you have isn't something you can manufacture. And I think that's a big thing that we try to do in marketing is we [00:10:00] try to manufacture it to like have the perfect hook or have the perfect thing and to get somebody to do something when really you're creating this from your synergy and It was insight that I was getting when we would have our calls because you would talk about, well, someone came up to me on the street here after our improv thing.

And I was like, huh? And then it was, you know, the more I listened to you and the more you shared with me, I was like, you, you thrive in speaking. Whether that's on TEDx talk, on stage, live, on camera, whatever it might be, that's, and that's your gift and also your medicine.

Becky Brett: Thank you.

Kathryn Thompson: You're welcome.

Becky Brett: Yeah, there was a, there was a, uh, an evening my, uh, my fella and I went out to dinner in a restaurant like very close by and like in the neighborhood.

And, um, two people that night stopped me and said, Hey, are you, are you that girl from the improv show? [00:11:00] It's like, Oh my God, look at me in my tiny corner of the world, you know, like,

Kathryn Thompson: yeah,

Becky Brett: yeah. And my little pond over here, but yeah, it was very cool.

Kathryn Thompson: So cool.

Becky Brett: So cool.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah,

Becky Brett: so if I could, I'd love to share how we came up with our idea because like your, I keep saying permission, but that's really what it is, because we put ourselves in boxes and then someone needs to open it for us.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah,

Becky Brett: so your opening of that gave Kelly and me permission to tap into our natural gifts in the creating of this thing. So we basically created a business plan by using each of our sort of natural like modalities. So I'm a card reader. Yeah. One of my things is modalities as a card reader. And so I had Tarot and a few other Oracle decks nearby.

[00:12:00] She is a shaman. And so we were sitting in, we're sitting in my living room and I'm like, okay, okay, we need to make this happen. And it's like, rather than sitting down at a meeting, she got, I was, I had the cards and I was going to. I had done a personal poll for her and so I just had the cards with me anyway, and was connected with them.

And then she's like, okay, I'm feeling called to get up and call in the directions.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: And so, so she got up, called in, and each as she was facing each direction, I pulled cards for that direction.

Kathryn Thompson: So beautiful.

Becky Brett: Her added inspiration. And so like she called it in and gave, gave that theme, like whatever that direction was meant to help us with.

I pulled cards that gave us further clarification and we sat down once she did that, and I did that. We sat down and went through each direction and allowed all of that to inspire what then became [00:13:00] this thing. So it wasn't like we took our producing expertise. Cause like I've produced. I figured out I've produced over 7, 000 events.

1. 25 million people. Wow. In my career so far. I guarantee she's done the same. So it's not like we sat down and like produce her hat on and let's make a show. We did it through our own inspiration and our own connection with God's source, the divine, the universe, our own. connection to that and our inspiration.

And so I think that's why once we landed on what it was, it felt so perfectly aligned. And like we knew exactly what to do next, as opposed to sitting here struggling with a week's worth of social media posts that weren't going to get me anywhere anyway.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. And the, [00:14:00] the trying to figure it out, right? I think you touched on something really important here of like, you have the expertise to produce shows, right?

You've done thousands and thousands and thousands of them, where people, millions of people have viewed them, so visibility And you being seen was never the issue, it was living in the box, that predetermined box that we all are in, let's be serious, right, we are all in, there's this tension between, I know I'm being called to this way, I know this is my path, but like, is this how I should do it, or this is how I've seen it modeled, so we're all, we're all there, but it's like, it's trusting thing.

the divine source, your intuition, and that will lead to alignment, which then to me leads to success.

Becky Brett: Isn't it funny, it's not funny at all, [00:15:00] but isn't it funny that even though like I've personally mentored over 140 readers into like stepping into their own brilliance, and yet here I am? Which is why I think we all need that outside person to unlock something for us. Like I needed you to say, Hey, . Yeah.

You don't have to do the social media and to like open up a door for me and show me a different way. Like even even those of us who are in this, yeah. Need somebody, you know, like a therapist still has a therapist for that moment.

Kathryn Thompson: Totally.

Becky Brett: Totally.

Kathryn Thompson: And that's a such an important share because I think sometimes we can be almost embarrassed.

And I've had people come to me going like, I am a marketer by trade. I was trained in marketing, but I'm hiring you to support me [00:16:00] in it. Like, am I a fraud? And it's like, No, because we can't see what we can't see. And this is the whole path of divine timing in a lot of ways, right? Like, yes, I support people in quote unquote selling the invisible, and I help with marketing and systems, but ten times out of ten, people come to me and with that idea, I want the system, I want the marketing, but what I often will unlock just in this relationship, back and forth connection, is a redirect or opening a Pandora's box or providing permission to just do it your bloody way.

What I'm here to do on this planet is to help people through my own living and embodiment to carve out their own path, so to speak, right? And so we all need mentors, coaches, guides, illuminaries, whatever you want to call it to help reflect to us or Unlock Something Within Us, which is all [00:17:00] within you, like that was within you, it's just it needed to be reflected to you.

So beautiful. Um, what are you excited about going forward?

Becky Brett: I am excited to create the show with Kelly, to really play with her. Um, we had a big group improv show just a couple nights ago

Kathryn Thompson: and

Becky Brett: whenever she and I were on stage, we were just locked in. So like, that was just such a joyful time. Uh, so I'm really excited about that.

Actually, that's the main thing, just, um, accessing so much of my creativity now and like really pouring that into it. Cause it just, Oh, it just feels so good.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah, I love it. And

Becky Brett: also, I mean, now we are solidly out of COVID. Like, I think that was a lot of it too. Like I still had COVID. that COVID mindset of, Oh, I can't go out in public and meet people when that is pretty much the only way I meet people.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. [00:18:00]

Becky Brett: Um, yeah, I'm, I've, um, taken steps now to meet new people in my community and, um, take more intentional, like meetings and communications and, um, really to build, build up the community of physical people.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: Um, so I'm very excited about, uh, taking steps with that. I just had a networking call today.

Networking. I know it sounds so business y, but we're both like witches here on the island. Having a networking call. But, but like we were, we had met in another conference and found that like, we live very close to each other and what are the odds? And so we just started talking about, um, building up a community of conscious entrepreneurs

Kathryn Thompson: here

Becky Brett: on the Island, because like, if the boats stop coming, we're really kind of screwed.

So like, how do we build resilience? How do we. [00:19:00] Build like regenerative activities. Okay. Yeah. Um, so we were, we were very aligned, very aligned with that. And um, so like, this has just opened so many more doors and opened my eyes to seeing all now like, what are the op Now I know what I'm looking for. Yeah.

Now my reticular activating system is filtering in the opportunities that are gonna. help me shine and connect with people.

Kathryn Thompson: I love it. I love it. This is such a massive win. Like, it's such a massive win because it will change the trajectory of your life and your business, like a hundred percent will. And when you were talking about the directions and pulling cards, I was like, you could like patent that framework.

Becky Brett: Yeah, I think so. Everybody watching, listening. That is going to be owned by Kelly Salisburger.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah, it's proprietary.

Becky Brett: Yeah, she is, [00:20:00] she is going to turn that into a thing that she teaches. A hundred

Kathryn Thompson: percent.

Becky Brett: Um, she was like, that was really powerful. I could teach that. Yeah.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. And just such a beautiful activation, right?

Cause if you think about sitting down and doing like a business plan, it's like, what are your values? What, what's the core problem you want to solve? That, that it's very masculine.

Becky Brett: Yeah,

Kathryn Thompson: but if you can tune into the energy, then so much more is at play, because it leaves you open for that exploration of like, okay, this is the energy, this is the intention, whatnot.

What does that look like? I mean, it could look like a bazillion different things, right? It could be improv. It could be card pulling, it could be whale watching, like there's so many things that, right? Like it, again, it's like the box, it's busting out of the box. Really what this is, is just busting out of the box and bringing new ways of doing things into business, into [00:21:00] career coaching.

And changing the system or improving the system that are, that exists, right? With traditional career coaching, with traditional business coaching, right? There's different ways you can do it and create, unlocking creativity is just so soul giving and fulfilling.

Becky Brett: Yeah. Yeah. I think if I were to say anything to any of your like clients or your audience, potential clients or whoever might be listening to this, I would say whatever, oh, and this is a quote from, uh, from, The movie Serenity from Firefly is whatever makes, maybe it is.

Um, I don't know, but whatever makes you weird is your greatest asset is so true. Whatever you think is like your quirky, weird thing, if you can, like, I challenge you to apply it to something that is, Tedious.

Kathryn Thompson: [00:22:00] Yeah.

Becky Brett: Making a business plan. No one wants to sit down and do that.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: But I do want to sit down and pull cards.

Right. And call in the directions and then. See how that leads. Like, we have an actual business plan now. Like, we know how to market. We know how to put the show, how to structure the show. We know who our audience is.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: So, like, we know how to produce it as a tour. Like, we, we know how to build it out, like.

Kathryn Thompson: And done in such an unconventional way. It's done in an, and so it's like, what is that weird? What is that quirkiness? What is that? That exactly that. Taking it and flipping it on its head, like the tedious thing of like creating social media posts or, you know, turning that more into your art than into marketing.

Yeah. How can, how can you take that weird and, and flip it, sending emails, right? Coming up with email marketing or coming up with Facebook ads or [00:23:00] whatever it is that you're like, man, this feels rigid. and not me and I'm not loving it. Well then how, how can you love it? And maybe you're not meant to love it.

Maybe it's like, okay, we'll just shift the energy or shift the focus. Um, and that's okay. And that is okay. Yeah. I love it. I love that invitation. And so if there was anybody watching this who was considering Spellbound, what would you say to them?

Becky Brett: Ooh, I would say, um, definitely do it. Definitely, like, if you are feeling stuck or, um, thinking back to, like, how I just felt unseen.

In my business. I felt invisible. And, um, it's because I wasn't showing up in my unique way. So it's important, like you and you, it's not just you, like, I didn't know this. Yeah. I really, I really just dove head first, [00:24:00] Instagram. You said the right thing. I'm like, take my money. So. Um, but, but it's your, the whole team you've pulled together, like Morgana and Jen, with like, everybody who comes in to support us.

It's not, it's not just you. Um, we get a whole range of help and like inspiration. So, um, it's definitely worth it. And, I think, well, anything else? Like, I dunno, like the, the course was fine. Like learning the specifics of different things. But for me, it was really about the, what inspired me, like between you and everyone else involved.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. Amazing. And it's that magical combination, right? It's like the very intentional with the type of human [00:25:00] I'm asking to sort of come in and support and guide and support and unlocking. And I do believe it's a full ecosystem, right? I do believe it's like right time, right place, right person that has this unlocking, um, within you.

But it's these, Unconventional thinkers and, and, and Morgana and Jenny, we all do things very differently and we all approach business very differently. And so my intention was, I don't want it to be a cookie cutter, right? Like everybody must think like me, act like me, believe in it. I'm like, I want Morgana to even challenge maybe what I'm saying and Jenny to challenge, right?

And not in a bad way, but just, you providing counterintuitive different perspectives because to me that's what supports people in having the permission to just be themselves because they see it different ways of it being modeled rather than this is the only way to be successful. Yeah.

Becky Brett: I think the only [00:26:00] way to be successful is to be you.

Kathryn Thompson: Totally.

Becky Brett: Yourself.

Kathryn Thompson: Totally. Totally. In my opinion, you can create success like money and, and a, and a business, but if you're not true to who you are in that process, it will catch up to you if you are heart led and mission driven, a hundred percent.

Becky Brett: So I know we've been talking a lot about like the feels and being tangible, but I mean, we're in this to, because we still have to make money to pay for things like the internet and.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah.

Becky Brett: Lovely house that you see behind me. And so since working with you, I have had, um, two new like business consulting clients.

Kathryn Thompson: Amazing.

Becky Brett: Um, actually two or three, two or three. And then I have, uh, renewed two of my one on one clients.

Kathryn Thompson: And

Becky Brett: Take an on [00:27:00] full-time job.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. . I won't, I wouldn't call it. I I want you to define job, because I know you have a very different perspective of what a job is,

I do.

Becky Brett: Yeah. Yeah. It's not like I go to a place and do a thing for certain hours of the day. It's a very flexible job. Yeah. Um, but what I love about it is it's paying my, they're paying me like an employee. Yeah. But it's essentially I'm, um, I'm, my job is to build relationships. for a non profit that serves other non profits and other conscious entrepreneurs.

It's a, um, community development, community economic development fund.

Kathryn Thompson: Amazing.

Becky Brett: And I'm their fund development director. And what that means here is I'm the chief relationship builder that then leads to money coming in to help all of these other organizations.

Kathryn Thompson: Amazing. Amazing. Yeah, and also I know that you [00:28:00] honor, like, what's true to you and so you don't just take a job for the sake of taking a job that has to really fuel your soul.

Um, and yes, of course, we all, we all need money to, and the resource of money to do. Do the things that have the impact and live and all of that and so I'm totally celebrating not only like the intangible underneath the surface, unlocking this portal that's just going to create magic for you, but also like the money creation that you're creating, the renewals, the opportunities, really, because it's opportunities coming into your field.

Becky Brett: And these new clients, the new business clients, I all met in person. here.

Kathryn Thompson: Of course. Of course, which isn't a bad thing. I think sometimes too with like online business and the world, it's like we, we almost wait like, Oh, well it's, it's, I'm selling to people I know and not strangers. So there must be something [00:29:00] less.

Like successful about that.

Becky Brett: Yeah. Perfect. Yeah.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. And in reality, it's just, it's all our natural way of hauling in opportunities into our world and it looks different for everybody.

Becky Brett: Yeah. Uh, I want to say like someone pointed out to me that the fact that my clients are people who've known me forever, like I think some study was done that proved that your friends and family are the least likely to buy from you.

When you start a business.

Kathryn Thompson: Totally.

Becky Brett: So I, I feel hugely successful that my friends and family are the ones who are my clients or these, the people who I meet and who become my friends or at least really good colleagues. Yeah. So if you are in the same boat where you feel like, oh, it's not real because it's my friend or like my friends when I

Kathryn Thompson: know

Becky Brett: [00:30:00] hired me to do something or whatever, that is so not true.

Like that is the hardest market to tap into.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. Totally is, because oftentimes, I mean, word of mouth and whatnot, right? It's like, it all is relationship building in a lot of ways, right? And so they know you. And yes, they will innately probably have a deeper trust for you, but in the same breath, They know you.

And so do they, do they need this, that support? Are they like, man, I don't necessarily want to work with you when I'm going through chaos and change. Like, I'd rather go to a stranger and unleash that to a complete stranger. Right. So, and then the longevity of your clients, again, is indicative too, right?

Like them renewing and sticking around, um, just goes to show. the level of support and guidance that you provide them. So, um, I'm totally celebrating you because I mean, it's just like so amazing to have witnessed your journey. Thank

Becky Brett: you.

Kathryn Thompson: [00:31:00] Yeah. It's been

Becky Brett: facilitating it for guiding me through.

Kathryn Thompson: Amazing.

Amazing. Is there anything else you'd like to share that maybe we haven't, um, touched on?

Becky Brett: Yes, there is one more realization that I had over the weekend. Um, so many, many years ago, I'd say 20 years ago. I had just, I had joined an MLM. So, uh, and I was at one of the gather, one of the like weekly meetings and we're all like getting up and stating our big life dreams and Uh, I was in Chicago at the time and my big life dream was to, I was like, I'm going to, I'm in this business because I am going to move to a tropical island and help like a hundred thousand people.

Kathryn Thompson: Love it.

Becky Brett: And I'd forgotten about that until I was doing some like digging into my past for things that I could pull up, you know, for marketing [00:32:00] purposes. And, uh, I was like, Oh my God, 20 years ago, I didn't know it would look like this, but here I am. I live on a tropical island and I've helped way more than a hundred thousand people.

I've impacted over a million people.

Kathryn Thompson: Amazing.

Becky Brett: So like, I took a second, went back to me of that age. I was like, girl, we did it.

Kathryn Thompson: You did it. That is so amazing. And isn't it interesting too, when we set the intention for something and we want to manifest it and like how it comes to be, the timeline it comes to be, and then to like blink and it kind of, I mean, 20 years, right?

It's a, it's a time period, but it's like, it's all happening for us.

Becky Brett: Yeah.

Kathryn Thompson: And there's a bigger cosmos at play on this journey than just, um, following that strategic [00:33:00] plan or the exact steps or whatever. Um, but you're living it. Yeah.

Becky Brett: Yeah. So I guess I, I don't have any advice except, well, patience and enjoying the journey.

Cause I, I didn't end up here because. 20 years ago I said, I'm gonna end up here.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. Yeah. And enjoying the journey, even through the chaos and the challenges and the obstacles. Yeah.

Becky Brett: Yeah, because since then I've been divorced twice.

Kathryn Thompson: I like

Becky Brett: rebuilt my life twice.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah,

Becky Brett: so,

Kathryn Thompson: yeah. And if you want to connect with Becky, where can we, where can they connect with you?

Because I think you have a fascinating story. I think you've done amazing things in your life thus far and so much more, um, still to come. Um, but I just think you have such a fascinating story and I think a lot of people will probably [00:34:00] resonate with it and, um, I'd love to be able to like, yeah, have them reach out to you if they'd like.

Becky Brett: Yeah, so the most fun place to find me is on Instagram, and that's beckybrett. live is my handle. Um, and then I have a website, beckybrett. com, um, and, um, I have a TikTok also, but I don't post a lot. I don't post a lot. Anything, but if you want, I'm fun slinger.

Kathryn Thompson: Yes. Amazing. Amazing. More

Becky Brett: sass.

Kathryn Thompson: Yeah. I love it. I love it.

I'm going to go check out your TikTok now. I'm intrigued.

Becky Brett: It's really not that. It's really not all that. But it's, but yeah, definitely Instagram Becky Brett dot live.

Kathryn Thompson: Amazing. Amazing. Well, yeah, it's been a pleasure. Thank you so much for sharing with everybody. It's just so amazing to see and witness, yeah, the magic you're creating.

Becky Brett: Thank you so much, Kathryn.
